Some potentially very exciting news for fans of the Red Dead Redemption franchise. The original Red Dead Redemption game is getting a remake/remaster and Red Dead Redemption 2 will also be getting a new version for the next-generation PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series S/X consoles. That’s according to Rockstar Mag creator and prominent Rockstar leaker Chris Klippel, who has previously proved to be a pretty reputable source on all things Rockstar Games.
Taking to Twitter, Klippel explained that he’d received confirmation back in 2020 about both Red Dead Redemption being remastered or remade and that Red Dead Redemption 2 would be receiving a next-gen port. He also suggested that it’s likely the games will be released together, whenever they’re ready, although they won’t be getting named as the “Outlaws Collection”, as had been previously suggested elsewhere.

To answer several private messages in one go, yes, as I was able to confirm at the end of 2020, a next-gen port of #RDR2 has been underway for several months at Rockstar. With a remaster/remake project of the first RDR. The port of RDR2 had to basically be announced much earlier. The announcement would have been visibly shifted for the remaster / remake of RDR. I don’t know more, except that the project would still be relevant and that obviously it does not bear the name “Outlaws Collection”. Wait & see!

Obviously, with nothing officially confirmed by Rockstar regarding this, Klippel’s tweets should be taken with a pinch of salt. However, it’s not too hard to imagine that this could be a very smart move by Rockstar, especially given the struggles Red Dead Online is having with maintaining a player base and also how busy the studio is on GTA6.
We’ll just have to watch this space for further updates on this from Rockstar in an official capacity.
