Hogwarts Legacy is full of puzzles, gubbins, and, well, stuff. One of the earliest brain-scratchers you will come across whilst exploring Hogwarts and Hogsmeade are these mysterious chests adorned with eyeballs. They can’t be opened, and they don’t like people prying into their business.
So this begs the question: how do you open these strange chests? Well, they are known as Eye Chests (probably), and they can’t be opened by normal means. In fact, you won’t be able to open them for quite some time. Once you have the method to open one, however, they will all fall prey to your grubby, greedy, mitts.

Where To Find Eye Chests
Eye Chests can be found almost immediately in Hogwarts Legacy. Simply exploring the castle will result in your bumping into them – providing you are being extra explorative. They are nearly always off the beaten path and tucked away in some corner out of view. The catch is, of course, that you can’t open them and they aren’t marked on your map.
How To Open Eye Chests
Eye Chests can be opened by any Witch or Wizard who can’t be seen by the chest. This is easier said than done considering the giant eyeball on the front of the chest. Don’t fret, however, there is a way to crack them open despite their unusual defence mechanism.

You will need a Disillusionment Charm, which is not learned in class. No, you learn this Charm from Sebastian Sallow during the “Secrets Of The Restricted Section” quest. You will use this Charm to sneak past Prefects, Librarians, and even Ghosts. It’s a stealth mechanic that grants limited invisibility.
Invisibility is exactly what you need when trying to break into an all-seeing Eye Chest. To open them, simply cast this Charm, walk up to the chest, and crack it open like any other chest. You can find your very first openable Eye Chest during this very quest, so don’t miss out on some sweet rewards.

Rewards For Opening Eye Chests
There are plenty of chests in Hogwarts Legacy, and they tend to grant various cosmetics, gear, or small sums of cash. Eye Chests, however, grant you large sums of money. Each Eye Chest will reward you with a whopping 500 Galleons. This is a huge chunk of money gained from one chest, and considering how expensive items are in Hogwarts Legacy, it’s well worth the effort to track them down.
