Assassin's Creed Rift Reportedly Set In Baghdad

Another day, another rumour about the next Assassin's Creed game.

Assassin's Creed Rift

Fresh off the back of yesterday’s suggestion that the next Assassin’s Creed game would take place in amongst the Aztec civilisation, a new claim has rebuffed that idea with totally different information. Responding to yesterday’s tweet from source AGC, who stated that the next Assassin’s Creed game would have an Aztec setting, Bloomberg reporter Jason Schreier replied on Reddit, as spotted by VGC, that this was not the case.

According to Schreier, “The next AC game is Rift, which is set in Baghdad.” He then continued to elaborate on the future development of the Assassin’s Creed franchise, explaining that “after that will be AC Infinity, and while that’s going to include a bunch of different games/experiences/biomes/whatever you want to call them, I’ve heard about the main two and neither of them are Aztec.”

This information somewhat questions the credibility of yesterday’s tweet from AGC, however, when it comes to leaks and rumours, it’s always important to take things with a pinch of salt. Schreier did however report on Assassin’s Creed Rift back in February, which lends weight to his most recent remarks in response to the suggestion of an Aztec setting for the new game.

It is thought that Assassin’s Creed Rift is a codename for the next title in the series, and is thought to be smaller in scale and more stealth-orientated than the latest Assassin’s Creed adventures. According to VGC, Assassin’s Creed Rift will feature the character Basim Ibn Ishaq from Assassin’s Creed Valhalla and will be released either later this year or in 2023. If this is true, it would make sense for the setting of the game to be in Baghdad.

With Ubisoft planning a September 10 Ubisoft Forward showcase, it could be that we will learn more about Assassin’s Creed Rift or indeed the next entry into the franchise during that event. Until then, we’ll just have to wait and see and try not to take any further speculation too seriously.
